M.Sc. Teo Firpo

Teo is a doctoral candidate and a Project Lead on ECDF’s collaboration with GIZ in Tunisia. Teo is an economist by background, with a special interest in experimental methods applied to innovation policy. He holds a master’s degree in Economics and Public Policy from the economics department at Sciences Po Paris, as well as a PgCert in Econometrics from Birkbeck University of London.

Prior to joining the team, Teo worked for five years for the Innovation Growth Lab at Nesta, the UK’s innovation foundation. He focused on using experimentation to test new approaches to innovation policy, in collaboration with public agencies from around the world, including NASA, the UK’s Department for Business, the EU’s executive agency for SMEs, Innovation Norway, and others.

Teo’s work in Tunisia focuses on digital skills, and the effects of digitalisation on the labour market. His PhD research also looks at how innovation projects – in R&D and applied research – are funded; in particular, he studies how different elements of selection processes affect the quality of funded projects.
